Fribourg, Switzerland (TSR, Fre) – Lucie Trezzini, the 16-year-old who was murdered 4 March at the hands of a 25-year-old man who has explained his act by saying he wanted to return to prison, was commemorated in a silent march through Fribourg Sunday. Some 2,500 people participated.

The family had asked the public to join them in the walk from the Pérolles gardens to the Christ-Roi church, where the young woman’s funeral took place Monday.

The man who has admitted to her murder had earlier served a prison term for attempted murder.

Lucie’s mother made a strong and emotional appeal to let her daughter’s death at least serve some purpose in the future, calling on the Swiss to put in place an alert system when a child goes missing. She noted that while such a system might not have saved her daughter, since a kidnapping alert would be for children 15 and under, it might prevent other families from having to experience the kind of heartbreak the Trezzinis are facing.
