Merz in controversy?

Merz in controversy?

Bern, Switzerland (Le Temps, Fre) – The Swiss government risks embarrassment over remarks made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, reports Le Temps.

The Iranian leader, in an election rally tape that the Geneva newspaper obtained, credits Swiss President Hans-Rudolf Merz with implying that Switzerland has been intimidated by the US and that the US wants Switzerland to pay for the mistakes made by Americans, which led to the global economic crisis.

Mahmoud says the remarks were made by Merz when the two met at the Intercontinental Hotal in Geneva during the April 2009 UN conference on racism.
