A continuing scandal over expenses claimed by some MPs (Members of Parliament) in the UK has cost Elliot Morley, former fisheries minister, his Labour Party membership and an aide has been forced out of his job. More MPs’ expenses are being scrutinized closely, with mortgage expenses claims high on the list of possible abuses. Claire Short, former international development secretary, says the Daily Telegraph, which has been pushing the investigations, is running a smear campaign. She was overpaid by the government for her mortgage claim but reimbursed it in 2006, long before the scandal began. BBC, Daily Telegraph
