Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Swiss military officials announced 4 June that the body of a man found in the Aare River earlier in the week is that of the soldier who went missing 22 May.
The investigation into the circumstances of his death are continuing. He was swimming during a noon break from his unit of soldiers who are doing a straight year of military service, working on disaster response. He found himself in trouble in the water and his colleagues were unable to save him.
A massive search for more than a week, with the army and civilians, failed to turn up the young man. The body was found some 500 metres downstream from the accident.
