UPDATE 6 June  Paris, France (GenevaLunch) – Roger Federer and Robin Soderling each won exciting five set matches to set up a fascinating final for the French Open.

The Swede continued his amazing run this tournament, including victories over Rafa Nadal and Nikolay Davydenko, with a semi-final win over Chilean clay court specialist Fernando Gonzalez. Soderling won the first two sets but in the next two Gonzalez gradually took control and seemed to be on the way to a hard-fought victory. Soderling came back from a break down in the final set to win 6-3 7-5 5-7 4-6 6.4.

Roger Federer, in search of his first title in Paris and a record-equaling 14th Grand Slam title, lost the first set to Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro, won the second in the tie break but then lost the third. He then  moved up a gear as the lanky Argentinian tired, taking the fourth set 6-1. In the final set Federer broke serve early and served out to win the match 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-1 6-4.

Soderling played against Fernando Gonzalez from Chilli and not with Felipe…

Estuardo, thanks for the correction, now fixed. It was too late in the day when the matches ended and it wasn’t just the players who were tired from all the excitement!
