Electrical station, Geneva

Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - The federal government is starting what it refers to as a close scrutiny of the proposed electricity price hikes, 26 percent higher than rates set by the Federal Energy Commision, announced in May by national electricity carrier swissgrid.

The increases will be passed directly to consumers, notes the government in explaining an investigation that will look at the “minutae” behind the higher prices. The published rate increases for 2010 remain in effect until the first results of the government report are ready, says Bern, but it gives no timeframe for the study.
