Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - The World Intellectual Property Organization (Wipo) will have a new slate of senior managers 1 December 2009, with the approval 16 June of a team proposed by the organization’s Director General, Francis Gurry. Wipo was heavily criticized for months for management problems and the Swiss government spearheaded efforts to reform the organization’s management. Gurry was confirmed as Wipo’s head in November 2008.
The new senior management team of seven:
- Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria, deputy director general (DDG) for development
- James Pooley, United States of America, DDG for patents
- Binying Wang, China, DDG for trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications
- Johannes Christian Wichard, Germany, DDG for global issues
- Trevor C Clarke, Barbados, assistant director general (ADG) for copyright and related rights
- Ramanathan Ambi Sundaram, Sri Lanka, ADG for administration and management
- Yoshiyuki Takagi, Japan, ADG for global IP infrastructure.
One of the seven, Binying Wang, is a woman.
