innovation houseLausanne, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - The groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday 25 June for Innovation House, a  group of five new buildings at EPFL, the Lausanne federal polytechnic institute. It is the latest in a series of major building projects at EPFL designed to turn the school into a full university campus, joining the Rolex Learning Center and student and guest housing, buildings now under construction.

The new Innovation House will be home to research labs for multinationals and large Swiss corporations. Logitech, based in nearby Romanel-sur-Morges (and California), is the first company to sign on for the space.

The building project is largely financed by the UBS Sima fund, listed on the stock exchange and with a value of CHF5.13 billion. In the Lake Geneva region the fund has a portfolio of CHF1 billion. The new Innovation House’s first stage is expected to cost CHF100 million and will be completed in 2010.
