Pretoria, South Africa (GenevaLunch) – The British and Irish Lions dominated the first half but were pinned back in the second and eventually lost to a last minute penalty. South African flanker Schalk Burger was given a yellow card in the first minute for gouging the eye of Lions wing Luke Fitzgerald, a particularly nasty foul that could have seen a red card.
The Lions took advantage by moving into a 10-point lead with a try by Kearney but Pietersen responded with a scything run to claim back five points.
The Lions led 8-16 at half-time and soon added another penalty to the score but then Habana struck back with a try. The score was 25-25 going into the last minute when O’Gara conceded a penalty by bashing into Du Preez as he rose to take a high ball. Steyn converted from 55 metres and the game and series were lost for the Lions.
