Johannesburg, South Africa (GenevaLunch) – Schalk Burger, the South African flanker, was given an eight-week ban, considered a lenient punishment, for gouging the eye of British and Irish Lions winger Luke Fitzgerald in the first minute of the test match on Saturday.
He was only given a yellow card at the time and the Springboks won the game 28-25 with a last minute penalty. Bakkies Botha was also suspended for two weeks for a dangerous charge on Adam Jones that dislocated the Lions’ prop’s shoulder.

Should be a life ban. that sort of deliberate foul play is not required.
