Basel and Zurich, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Two young men, ages 20 and 23, are in critical condition following attacks, one in Basel and the other in Zurich, in the early hours of Sunday. In addition, police in Zurich report a series of violent incidents, only some of which appear to be possibly related. Several people were injured in the string of aggressive incidents, at a level not often seen in Switzerland.

The 20-year-old was out walking in Basel at 03:00 when he got into a dispute with three other men, approximately his age, and he was kicked and punched in the head before being injured by a pointed object. Police are looking for the three French-speaking assailants, who appear to be French.

In Zurich, a 23-year-old who is now fighting for his life was attacked by what appears to have been a broken bottle, at 04:00 and his assailants fled. Earlier in the evening a 32-year-old Israel student had his wallet stolen after he was attacked at knifepoint by three men in the train station in Zurich, with injuries to the thorax. A few minutes later another man was hit in the face by three men. Earlier in the day in Wils an older man was hospitalized after being robbed and knocked down by three young men.

The train station in Zurich was also the scene of a fight that broke out among a group of young people and several were injured, some requiring hospitalization.
