Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The Swiss federal council refuses to give up documents related to the Tinner affair and intends to go ahead with its decision to destroy them, despite a court order to the contrary, Swiss president Hans-Rudolf Merz told Swiss German radio DRS yesterday.
The St Gallen Tinner family, a father and two sons, is reportedly implicated in a international nuclear proliferation network led by Pakistani nuclear scientist, AQ Khan. Documents related to the case were thought to have disappeared and resurfaced recently. A Swiss investigative judge has demanded that the documents be turned over to the court. The Swiss government claims that its constitutional prerogatives in the case override the court ruling.
