Washington, DC and Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - US federal district court judge Alan Gold, who is handling the case of the US Justice Department against Swiss bank UBS, has asked the American government to clarify its position, reports Swiss financial news agency AWP.
Specifically, according to the agency report, he has asked US tax authorities to prepare a response to the statement filed by the Swiss government Tuesday 7 July, stating that UBS will not be allowed by the Swiss Police and Justice Department to turn over data on 52,000 clients. Gold reportedly has asked the government to make clear its stance on whether or not the US assets of the bank could be confiscated, should the standoff reach that point. US authorities have until noon Saturday 11 July to file their arguments.
