Neuchatel, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The statistics are in: Swiss households are spending and making more money than before or at least they were in 2007, most recent year for which data is available.
According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (OFS), a typical Swiss household spent CHF5,430 a month in 2007, an increase of CHF240 compared to 2006. The largest increase occurred in housing and housing-related expenses, vacation and travel.
The Federal Statistical Office (OFS) points out that the revenue and income per household also increased, to CHF6,275 a month in 2007, which represents a 5 percent increase compared to a year earlier.
In 2007 the Swiss also spent more money on Internet services, women’s clothing and audiovisual electronic equipment such as cameras, TV sets and computers. The good news is that they were getting more for their franc: production and import prices published Monday by the OFS show that the cost of electronic equipment has been falling.
