Central France (GenevaLunch) – Mark Cavendish won his third sprint of the 2009 Tour, ably assisted by his Columbia teammates. A group of four riders, including three French, led a break-away group but they were overhauled in the last few kilometres, setting the stage for the final sprint. When it comes to sprinting there is not much doubt about who is fastest, at least according to Cavendish:
“The fact is, you look at the replays of my wins at the Tour, and I’m the fastest sprinter. I’m stating a fact. It’s not just me saying ‘I’m the fastest sprinter’ without backing it up – I’m stating a fact, you know? I don’t see how that can be seen as arrogance when it’s just telling the truth. But people can take me as they want? I don’t give a shit really.” (Wikipedia)
The yellow jersey positions are unchanged at the top, with Nocentini six seconds ahead of Alberto Contador. Lance Armstrong is two seconds behind his Astana teammate.
