Central France (GenevaLunch) – German rider Heinrich Haussler broke from the pack in only the third kilometre of Friday’s stage in the Tour de France, and he gradually left the other members of the breakaway group to take the stage by more than five minutes, with the pack  another two minutes back.

The overall leaders did not bother to contest the stage, prefering to spend a cold and wet day in the peleton. The Yellow Jersey stays with Italian rider Rinaldo Nocentini, while Alberto Cantador and Lance Armstrong stay six and eight seconds behind the leader.

Mark Cavendish lost the sprinter’s Green Jersey when he failed to keep up with the main pack.
