Budapest, Hungary (GenevaLunch) - It was just like old times as Lewis Hamilton, current Champion drove an almost faultless race, with the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkönen second, and Mark Webber third for Red Bull. It was Hamilton’s tenth Grand Prix win, but his first this season.
Fernando Alonso started in pole position in his Renault but was forced to stop at the pits with tire trouble, and then to retire as a front wheel was not properly fitted and later flew off.
The Renault team was later suspended from the next Grand Prix as punishment. It was clearly not a good week to have a run-away wheel after two freak accidents: one in which Henry Surtees, 18-year-old son of former champion John Surtees was killed after being hit on the head by a wheel, the other happened in the qualifying stages when Felipe Massa was concussed by a piece of fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello’s car falling off and hitting his helmet. Massa is in an induced coma for 48 hours following surgery for multiple skull fractures, reports the Guardian.
Current leader Jenson Button is still not happy with his car but succeeded in reducing the damage to his championship chances by coming in seventh. His chief rivals are in the Red Bull team: Sebastian Vettel was forced to abandon while Webber took third. Button now leads by 19.5 points.
