Milan, Italy (GenevaLunch) – The Italia 458 Ferrari, due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in Germany 15 September, is the Italian carmaker’s bid to beat the worldwide economic slump by facing it head on. The Italia is a completely new car, aided by crucial design input from Gland, Switzerland-based world racing champion, Michael Schumacher, a former Ferrari racer.
The company’s revenues to end June 2009 were 8 percent down on last year’s, at €890 million, despite a sales tag of almost €200,000 for each new car.
Ferrari is set to begin production of the new model at the end of 2009.
With a top speed of 325kmh and a seven-speed hyper-fast gear-box, the rear-drive 4.5 litre v-8 engine delivers 570 horsepower at 9,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). The makers claim it will go from 0 to 100 km/hour in 3.5 seconds.
