(GenevaLunch) – Arsenal top the table after the first round of the Premier League following a 1-6 thrashing of Everton, which included two goals by Cesc Fabregas. Chelsea also won but only with a large slice of luck as Didier Drogba scored with an attempted cross in the 6th minute of extra time which gave them a 2-1 victory over Hull City.
In the Sunday games Manchester United won 1-0 against Birmingham City with a goal by Wayne Rooney, clearly relishing the chance to play in a more central role after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. Liverpool lost 2-1 at Tottenham with a display that will leave their fans wondering whether the team can present a real challenge for the Premier League. The new-look Man City also won, beating Blackburn 0-2 with goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and their veteran Stephen Ireland.
