Lausanne, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Police in canton Vaud late Saturday nabbed a biker whose souped-up Honda CBR600 was going 200 kph in an 80 zone on the cantonal road between Senarclens and Cossonay. His license was immediately confiscated and he is being charged with several offenses, including illegally modifying his bike and going 115 kph over the speed limit after the 5 kph margin of error was allowed.
The police have been stepping up radar checks and controls of motorcyclists to reduce the number of serious accidents. Eleven of the 34 people who have died in traffic accidents in canton Vaud in 2009 have been on motorcycles and in 10 of the cases the accident was primarily the biker’s fault: inappropriate or high speeds or inattention.
A biker was killed on the A1 autoroute at noon Saturday, a few kilometres from the canton road where the speeder was picked up later in the day.
