Maranello, Italy (GenevaLunch) – Swiss-based Fernando Alonso will be racing with Ferrari in the Formula 1 for three years, starting in 2010. The Italian company announced the news Wednesday 30 September, saying that next season’s driver lineup will therefore be Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso, with Giancarlo Fisichella as reserve driver.
Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen leaves Ferrari at the end of the current season, by mutual consent. Alonso’s move from Renault has netted him a contract worth £23 million a year, UK’s Telegraph estimates, without providing a source. The newspaper also suggests that Raikkonen, whose plans for 2010 have not been announced, is expected to move to McLaren.
