New York, NY (GenevaLunch) – The New York marathon men’s race was won by an American for the first time since 1982: Meb Keflezighi won in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 15 seconds, after pulling ahead of Kenyan Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot. British runner Paula Radcliffe’s dreams of winning the 2012 Olympics took a battering when she came in fourth after treatment for a two-week old tendinitis let her down in the 11th mile.
Winner Derartu Tulu finished 35 seconds ahead of Radcliffe’s time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, 27 seconds. And there were no surprises in the wheelchair race where Kurt Fearnley, Paralympic marathon gold medalist, won his fourth straight New York marathon.
