Annecy, Haute Savoie, neighbouring France (GenevaLunch) - Western Europe’s highest mountain is officially 4,810.45 metres, some 45cm less than the last time it was measured in 2007. An expedition armed with highly sensitive instruments including a GPS, announced the measurements Thursday 5 November.
The expedition also found that the mountain had shifted 26m to the east, towards Italy. Its peak, however, is still centred on the commune of St. Gervais-les-Bains, Haute Savoie.
