An army psychiatrist has shot and killed 12 US soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas army base Thursday, 5 November. In the attack at an army  processing centre, 31 others were wounded. The shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, was in stable condition after having been shot several times by security officers following the shootings.

Hasan worked at the base as a psychiatrist, and had previously worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq and had been opposed to the move. BBC, CNN
