Nuremburg, Germany (GenevaLunch) - British boxer David Haye won the WBA world heavyweight match against the Russian giant Nikolay Valuev Saturday 7 November despite conceding more than 40 kilos and 28 centimetres. The Russian is the tallest and heaviest champion in history: 2.18 metres (7 feet) and 143 kg (315 pounds).
Haye weighed in Saturday at 99 kg (218 pounds). The fight was dull as the clumsy Russian struggled to hit the faster moving Briton. Hayes was only hurt once, when he feared he had broken his hand on the giant’s head. After that he restricted his strategy to keeping out of the way and scoring with jabs. Two judges scored it 116-112 for Haye, the other 114-114.
