Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The Libyan foreign minister said in Tripoli Thursday 12 November that the two Swiss businessmen who have been held against their will in Tripoli since last July will be tried for visa irregularities and tax evasion. The two men were returned to the Swiss embassy Monday 9 November after having been held incommunicado in a secret location 18 September.
Bern has toughened the tone with Libya in recent weeks and scrapped a deal it signed with Libya in August. It also introduced visa restrictions on Libyan officials 4 November. In Tripoli the vice-foreign minister accused EU countries of solidarity with Bern by denying Schengen visas to its officials too. He said that Tripoli could reciprocate.
