Update 24 November 07:50 Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Police continue to investigate the accident that put a 70-year-old man in hospital in serious condition Thursday 19 November after his Golf was hit by a Lamborghini Murcielago in Genthod, on the lake road. The driver was a 22-year-old Russian with an alcohol level of 1.11 per 1,000 (legal limit in Switzerland is 0.5), with a drivers license that is not valid in Switzerland. The car had Geneva plates. The Tribune de Geneve carries a front page story about the accident, suggesting that it was the result of a race or chase by four flash cars whose owners were trying to see which car is the fastest, a suggestion that other media have carried.
Geneva police spokesperson Patrick Pulh told GenevaLunch that police have not, in fact, been able to establish if there was any kind of race. “These cars make a lot of noise even when they are just idling.” he notes. “We haven’t been able to establish the speed at which they were going.” The ongoing investigation is seeking to clarify the roles of all the drivers involved, he says, and it’s difficult at this stage to say how long it will take.
Residents of Bellevue have reportedly said the cars were very loud, with the assumption they were moving fast.
Pulh also told GenevaLunch that while the other cars were indeed seen in Bellevue, where the Lamborghini was coming from, the driver has not said he was trying to rejoin his friends.
The police are publicly saying this much about those who may have been involved: the drivers of the four cars were all Russians and all are young. The police will not release or confirm their names or details of where they are from.

Sorry for all. Some idiots so-called “golden youth” – the children of Russian politicians, diplomats and mega-rich oligarchs made hude mistake in their lifes.
Young people from not mega-rich families which made money themselves have never done it (I myself drove from Geneve airport to Grinoble, Nice, Monako, in Spain, Greece have never been in accident.).
I made the dicision about”golden youth” becase we – Russians haven`t known their family names. And i think they are Russians politicians children – their family name we (Russians and Swiss usual citizen) don`t know and Dmitry Rogozin – Moscow’s outspoken ambassador to Nato wasn`t so angry.

Switzerland has long been a favourite playground for affluent Russians – as well as for Lenin who lived in exile there in the years immediately before the Bolshevik Revolution. Many Russian diplomats live and work in Switzerland. The country is also a popular destination for Russians seeking medical treatment, and a place to hide their money.
Many wealthy Russians send their children to expensive private Swiss schools. Their aim is not just to secure an advantageous education for their sons and daughters but also to get their hands on a Swiss passport – which is granted more rapidly to under-18s from overseas in full-time Swiss education.
I guess there were Russians diplomats` children. Do you remember m-r Prokhorov history in Courchevel ? Information about it was open for everyone but Russian`s family were closed from readers ….

Names, this is a key point. It is very interesting to know the name. The russian media says that Swiss justice shows softness regarding these guys…
Why the sons of [name deleted by editor] are withnesses only? And the police left them go? To my mind they are participators.

Anatolyo, sorry but for legal reasons we cannot show names (see our latest story on this: http://genevalunch.com/blog/2009/11/24/genthod-lamborghini-accident-inflames-russians/). Since no credible information is available about the role of the other car drivers – local media reports are mainly speculation – it’s hard to judge Swiss police action fairly. They did stop at the scene of the accident, it appears, but it’s not yet clear why they aren’t charged with leaving the scene. I hope to have more on this point soon.

All drivers are not russian! Look at least at their names. All of them are azers (nat.) and muslims (rel.).
Poor russians and poor europeans. Everybody here thinks: if from former USSR – always “wild russians”.
No one in Europe wants to know that Russia and russians suffer from these dirty so called “russians”.
Please, never call such guests of the country as “russians”, that is absolutely incorrect and hurts real russians.
