Neuchatel, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Switzerland’s latest jobless figures for July to September 2009 show the unemployment rate remaining stable overall, with the number of people in work rising by 0.7 percent compared to a year ago. The figure hides sharp differences: employment is up in services but down 2.6 percent in manufacturing, up for Swiss and foreigners with longer term contracts but down for foreigners with short-term contracts. Geographically, too, the figures vary, with a healthier picture in most areas and particularly Zurich, but unemployment continuing to rise in industrial areas in the centre of Switzerland the northwest.
