Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Didier Piguet, former owner of asset management firm, Golden Lion, was sentenced to six years in prison in Geneva 30 November for fraud and breach of trust. The court found him guilty, along with his associate, Serge Rouiller, of stealing CHF144 million from 200 of his clients from 1998-2003.
Piguet rose quickly to prominence as a banker in the 1990s, then opened his own asset management company, which grew to manage more than CHF350 million. His firm suffered a serious market reversal in 1999, which he tried to cover up by issuing false bank statements. He went on the run, and finally turned himself in to the authorities in 2003.
