Argentine government officials have said they will track down the unknown people who made threats to the country’s president on the radio frequency used by the presidential helicopter. The threats were made on the seven minute flight from the presidential estate at Olivos, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, to the Casa Rosada, the executive mansion, Friday 11 December. Unidentified voices said: “Kill the mare” and “Kill her”, interrupting flight communications on four occasions. The president was aboard, but unaware of the comments at the time.
Chief of staff Anibal Fernandez told reporters 14 December the government was taking the threats very seriously. He said they were related to the opening the same day the threats were made of the trial against members of the former military government accused of human rights violations at the navy school of mechanics. Cristina Fernandez, the president, told reporters it showed that “the dinosaurs are still out there”.
