Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Geneva-based ICVolunteers, which works with some 10,000 volunteers around the world, is running a second photography contest and exhibition following the success of its first one in 2009. The theme is “Diverse Perspectives on the Environment, Citizenship and Volunteering by using an investigative journalistic approach.”
Amateur photographers are invited to submit photos for the group’s gallery exhibit. They will also be used for an upcoming publication and calendar. The winner of the contest will be offered a Nikon digital camera.
ICVolunteers is a small international non-profit organization that works with a network worldwide to implement social and educational programmes to help local communities. It taps skills in IT, translation, event organization, writing and editing for field projects. These promote education, health, human rights, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. The group works with volunteers to implement social and educational programs in order to help populations and local communities.
ICV’s environmental projects have included:
- using community radio and other technologies to improve animal husbandry practices and the livelihoods of livestock breeders in the regions bordering the Sahara
- conducting reforestation efforts near the French-Swiss border and in African villages
- teaching young people in Switzerland and Brazil how to read and contribute to green maps of their communities’ natural and eco-friendly assets.
