Melbourne, Australia (GenevaLunch) – Roger Federer escaped a tough first hour of play to suddenly take over his match with Nicolay Davydenko to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, 7-5. Federer now moves into the semi-finals of the Australian Open, setting another record, for playing in more Grand Slam semi-finals than any player in tennis history. The win also assures him his number one place, which had been under threat from Novak Djokovic.
He will now face either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Djokovic, currently playing.
In women’s tennis,Venus Williams lost to Li Na, but sister Serena fought her way to a win over Victoria Azarenka, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2, thanks to a rally of five straight games that she badly needed.
