Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – A post-graduate teachers’ certification course in English will be offered starting in September 2010 in Geneva, the first of its kind in the area. The PGCE is a new programme created jointly by Durham University in Britain with the International School of Geneva (ISG), for people who want to teach in an international education context.
Twelve students will be selected by Durham, with input from the ISG, for the course which runs for an academic year.
It has three modules, one a “professional” module that involves classroom teaching experience, workshops, seminars, professional training weeks in areas such as special needs students and teaching English as a foreign language. The teaching part of the programme will give students the opportunity to teach 50 percent of a regular timetable during a first-term five-week period, working under the regular classroom teacher, and 75 percent of a timetable during a 10-week period later in the year.
Durham will provide the academic part of the programme, with two Masters degree modules, primarily from a January programme in the UK, which students are expected to attend.
Applications for the course are open until 12 February. Fees and other details

It is thanks to a GenevaLunch posting on the new PGCE (Int) course that I was made aware it existed. In a massive rush to get all my documents in place for the application deadline (12 days) and then preparation for the interview, I was eventually made an offer. I want to take this oportunity to thank GenevaLunch for being the source of information that brought me to the programme , I am now a daily reader and have told all my friends about it, special thanks to Leila.
