More children taking exams are being sanctioned for cheating and disruptive behaviour, according to a report out 3 February. Ofqual, the British body charged with regulating exams and qualifications standards, has published a report on last year’s GSCE and A level exams. Of almost 4,500 children sanctioned, 43 percent had introduced unauthorized material into the examination room. Material included cell phones, dictionaries, notes and study guides.
The number of adult supervisors reprimanded for malpractice has increased as well compared to 2008. In 2009, 88 invigilators at exam centres were sanctioned for breaches of security or giving favourable treatment to an examinee.
