Out with the old, in with the new, but no clear leanings surface
Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Geneva’s long-reigning political domination by the left has ended, but the city’s centre and centre-right also lost ground in local parliamentary elections Sunday. The Mouvement Citoyens genevois gained ground, despite or perhaps because of the high profile of its leader, Eric Stauffer. The left has held a majority in the city for 20 years. The significance of the shift in parties is not yet clear, except that voters appear to have expressed their dissatisfaction with the status quo.
Canton Vaud, which has traditionally been centre to centre-right in its leanings, saw progress made by the left in its local elections, but mainly in larger towns: Lausanne, Renens, Morges and Nyon.
