Old and loved coming to Montreux: BB King, Jimmy Cliff, Santana, Ricky Martin, George Benson and more

Montreux, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - The web site of the Montreux Jazz Festival was hacked Tuesday 12 April and the programme, a closely guarded secret, was published online two days ahead of the official announcement. The festival office has hired a company to find the leak.

Officially, we won’t know until Thursday 14 April at 10:00 what the complete lineup is, but unofficially, most of it is already out there, the MJF office said Tuesday.

The festival office has produced the official if incomplete programme. Check back Thursday for more news.

Lausanne, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – One of the world’s most important ballet competition for young dancers is on: the Prix de Lausanne, a hugely popular, international, ballet contest kicks off (pointy toes and all) Tuesday 1 February.

Created in 1973 as a competition for dancers aged 15 to 18, the Prix sets itself to be the driver to give “young talented dancers [a] start in their professional careers”.  Winners of the contest receive one-year scholarships to attend one of the partner schools.

The largest number of young women competing in 2011 come from Japan (10), followed by the US (6) and China (5).

This Friday the Bastions Park free circus performances come to an end.

The Spanish troupe Mumusic promises a fun-filled evening. The program is part of a year-long celebration of circus.

Last week, a Chilean wire-walker crossed without a net the rotunda at University Hospital in Geneva. Gonzalo Concha was 30 metres above ground! (see the video here).

Do not forget to dress warm and bring a blanket or a cushion to this outdoor performance.

L.A. Zombie poster

Locarno, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The Festival del Film de Locarno kicked off 4 August with the premiere of a film so controversial that was kicked out of a festival in Australia.

L.A. Zombie,” the late-evening festival opener, features a gay alien zombie-saga showcasing Francois Sagat, a well-known French gay porn star. The carnivore, sex-starved zombie, roams the streets of Los Angeles searching for gay sex and dead bodies.

The opening was definitely something to talk about, (see trailer). Is Locarno trying to establish its art film bonafides? It could be.
