LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – A fire broke out Tuesday evening 1 November at 20:15 in Blonay, near Lausanne, at the commune’s voirie, or waste disposal centre.
It was brought under control within an hour and a half, but five neighbours had to be evacuated because of the smoke, and 44 firefighters were needed to handle the blaze.
Firefighters tackled a major fire the same day, at noon, in a hangar that once held lumber but that has more recently housed vehicles. Some 85 men from the region fought the fire, which sent dense flames and smoke into the sky.
Both fires are under investigation by police and fire authorities.
