Nyon, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Nyon falls between the cracks when it comes to integrated transportation systems, apparently. Mobilis, a canton Vaud transport network with single payment agreements covering several local systems, has plans to extend its network west to Nyon, and to the Riviera, the north of the canton, and Lac du Joux, by the middle of 2010. Yet three-quarters of Nyon’s commuters use the train to get to Geneva, where they cannot use their train ticket for public transport in the city.

Villeneuve, Vaud, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The 90-foot catamaran that Alinghi has spent 100,000 manhours building for the next America’s Cup race was unveiled in Villeneuve 4 July. The boat now goes through a de-bugging process before it will be launched by helicopter into Lake Geneva this week for its first time out on the water. Alinghi, as the winner in July 2007 of the last race, one of the sailing world’s top events,  is the Defender of the America’s Cup. This gives it the right to set the rules, including those for the boat type, for the next race, and the new boat’s design has been a tightly-guarded secret.

Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - A Saturday evening high speed car chase through Vézenas, Collonge, Corsier and Anières almost caused a serious accident, and Geneva police are asking for witnesses to come forward with details. A police patrol car on the quai de Collogny noticed a VW Polo driving recklessly along the lake road towards Vézenaz at around 21:00 and took off in pursuit. The driver raced up the hill to Vésenaz and narrowly missed two pedestrians crossing the road at the light in front of the Coop. Police are asking for the two pedestrians to call +41 22 307 9111, the Brigade de Sécurité Routière.
