LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – Vaud Police are asking for help in finding the driver of a dark blue car that hit a 10-year-old girl in Epalinges Wednesday 9 November at noon.

The girl was walking along the chemin des Tuileries at 12:00 when she stepped into the crosswalk at Petit-Vennes. She was 1.5 metres into the striped crosswalk when the car struck her, knocking her down. The car was heading on chemin des Croisettes in the direction of the chemin des Ormeaux. The driver failed to stop after the accident.

The girl, who was hit in the right arm, took refuge on the sidewalk. Her parents took her to the hospital early in the afternoon and only later contacted police. The child is suffering from a broken wrist, broken tooth, and bruising to her right knee and face.

A1 Gland-Rolle accident: one seriously injured; Epalinges, Gland and Gingins deaths

Lausanne, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Three people have died and one is in serious condition following four separate accidents in Vaud since Tuesday. A woman in her seventies died following an accident in Gingins Saturday morning. In another accident early Sunday a 20-year-old man was airlifted to the Chuv university hospitals in serious condition after he lost control of his car on the A1 autoroute between Gland and Rolle, heading in the direction of Lausanne.

The Gingins accident occurred when the woman failed to see a vehicle coming from her right.

Nyon, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Nyon falls between the cracks when it comes to integrated transportation systems, apparently. Mobilis, a canton Vaud transport network with single payment agreements covering several local systems, has plans to extend its network west to Nyon, and to the Riviera, the north of the canton, and Lac du Joux, by the middle of 2010. Yet three-quarters of Nyon’s commuters use the train to get to Geneva, where they cannot use their train ticket for public transport in the city.

Lausanne, Switzerland (20 Minutes, Fre) – The driver of a car that drove straight into the side of a house (see photo on 20 Minutes) in Epalinges Monday was hospitalized with injuries that police reportedly say are not serious, after the “spectacular” accident.

Epalinges, Vaud (24 Heures, Fre) – Jeannie de Kaennel, the British woman whose husband was battered to death by two thieves at their home in Epalinges 29 December, talksed to 24 Heures last weekend about her plans for the future, now that police have arrested two men for the crime. She says she has no pity for them and hopes they are given a heavy sentence. For now, she has no plans to leave her home of several years, despite the memory as well as injuries she herself sustained.
