Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Lewis Hamilton made the news 16 April in a Tribune de Geneve blog over a car crash in Geneva, with the Formula 1 race driver apparently at fault. The blog post is a tale of lighthearted but high drama, which has the racer nearly in tears and Anouk, driver of the Peugeot 206 that he hit, in a panic after he “ran a stop sign.”

No one was injured in the 14 March incident in Vésenaz, and although the police reportedly were called to the scene, it was insignificant enough not to appear in the daily police bulletin’s traffic accidents. The story has been picked up by other media, including AutoEvolution, a car web site, which reports a slightly different version of the events.

Race stewards stripped Swiss-based Lewis Hamilton of his victory by imposing a 25-second penalty (for leaving the track when passing Raikkonen) that pushed him back to third place. Hamilton took the lead in the closing laps in a dramatic race that was dominated by Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari until the last few minutes. Hamilton had pole position for McLaren but lost the lead in the first lap. It looked like he would have to settle for second place until the rain started and Hamilton, whose McLaren handles better on a wet track than the Ferraris, began to fight for the lead. Raikkonen crashed out shortly after being passed. Felipe Massa came second with Nick Heidfeld in the BWM Sauber third. Hamilton now leads Felipe Massa by two points while Kimi Raikkonen is another nine points behind and probably out of the running to maintain his championship title.
