Nyon, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – A man in his 40s has died after he was hit by a train arriving at the Plantaz station in Nyon, when he jumped onto the tracks to push his young daughter out of harm’s way, 5 November afternoon. He had come to pick up his two young daughters from school, and noticed too late that one of them had climbed down onto the tracks as  the Nyon-St.Cergue train was pulling into the station.

Swiss windmill

Vaud, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The three communes of St Cergue, Trélex and Givrins will be home to a new windmill park with three of the aeolian structures to go up by 2013. The three are scheduled to sign an agreement Friday afternoon 29 May to work with sol-E Suisse and la Société Electrique des Forces de l’Aubonne (SEFA). Sol-E Suisse is a subsidiary of Forces motrices bernoises (FMB).

Nyon, Switzerland (Tribune de Genève, Fre) – A pilot road project designed to save motorcyclists’ lives on the treacherous route between Nyon and St Cergue was opened 19 May, reports the Tribune. The motorcyclist is physically reminded to slow down thanks to a coating on the surface of the road in strategic spots, with special strips that alert riders. The strips are similar to those on the approaches to French toll booths on the autoroute; they make a tickling noise.
