Thirteen bodies have washed up on the Tanzanian island of Mafia (map), along with debris, and they are thought to be those of victims of the Comoros archipelago crash of a Yemeni airliner in 1 July. Indian sailors who were freed after a ransom of $2.5 million was reportedly paid for their hijacked Japanese cargo ship, say conditions were desperate and their captors were “animals.” CNN The latest in a string of hijacking by pirates, many of whom appear to be based in Somalia, is a Yemeni cargo ship, taken in the Gulf of Aden, Reuters reports a regional maritime official as saying.
