Shirley has taught English language and literature for 43 years with time off to rear a family. Originally from the Yorkshire Dales in the UK she was drawn to Geneva by the snow and has worked as a ski-instructor in six countries, including Australia and New Zealand.

Her literary work can be seen in the New Statesman, Spectator, Literary Review and Oldie literary competitions. Her newest activity is creating cryptic crosswords for 1 Across.

Jonell Galloway JONELL GALLOWAY The rambling epicure

Jonell studied cooking at the Cordon Bleu and La Varenne in Paris, and wine tasting in France and at CAVE S.A. in Geneva and Gland. In France, she worked for some years as a contributing editor for the English edition of the GaultMillau guide and as a food translator, and she ran a small cooking school in a château near Paris. She now lives in Geneva, where she has been discovering the Swiss approach to gastronomy and oenology. One of her many interests is promoting Les Artisanes de la Vigne et du Vin as an ambassador for this Swiss women wine producers’ association.

    Re:Recent Flood In The Philippines

50 years ago..a similar and major flooding occured! I was 7 years old and my family home was closed to the Pasig River. The Pasig River was really swollen and quickly risen and we have to moved to the higher ground called near Fort Bonifacio, in Metro Manila. It was terrifying… a lot of people lost homes and many disappeared presumed drowned. Just like how it was today!
