In this cryptic crossword, the italicised clues consist of partial word-play only. All the remaining clues contain a definition and a concealed jumble of the letters of the solution with one extra letter incorporated or attached. These extra letters, in clue order, spell out a quotation that will indicate the general nature of the solutions to italicised clues.
