Hello all, Am delighted to find your websight. I spent my childhood in Geneva and visit as often as possible. I am familiar with Webster U. As I applied for a degree in Refugee Studies. My job, here in Wisconsin, U.S.A. was resettlement of Hmong and Laos refugees.{10,000}. My time in Geneva at the International School prepared me well. Would love to stay in touch, My best wishes for all your efforts. Marcia LaHaye Kellner.

We’re delighted to have you visit! Spread the word to your old Geneva friends, as we do very little advertising and word of mouth is how most people hear about us. Thanks, Ellen

How about some more pictures on the website to keep from making it so boring?
    Thanks

You’ve hit on our next task! GenevaLunch is produced by a group of volunteers and we’ve just moved to our new site – learning to work with the image upload options and photo databases is taking a bit longer than expected. By the end of September we should be back to our more normal, livelier-looking pages.

Ellen, I was checking on NPR for some information when I ran accross the piece you did regarding Swiss disability insurance and how it benefits your daughter, Tara. I worked at Ecolint [International School of Geneva], back in the nineties.

We are now back in the USA, for the time corresponding to the eight years of the Bush administration. I want to send Sen. Dashle, Secretary-elect of Health, the report on disabiltiy insurance in Switzerland. As Swiss-Americans, we have our own story to reinforce your experience. Our daughter, Caroline, developed scars on her retina as a result of toxoplasmosis. She now is legally blind, although it is very difficult to tell. As a result, the AI [Assurance Invalidite in Switzerland] provided her with social support in the form of this marvelous lady who would visit the schools to explain Caroline’s situation and the accommodations that would be necessary. They provided a computor and software for visually-impaired. Caroline finished Gymnase in the Vaud system and went on to study Chinese and Japanese at the University of Geneva. Last year she went to China to study at the People’s University in Beijing.

While Caroline was in China, she got sick and had to come home to us in Sunnyvale, CA. We scrambled to get health insurance for her. She was 23 and of course considered an adult. While in the hospital at Stanford we learned that she did not qualify for health insurance because of her “pre-existing condition, toxoplasmosis.” Stanford helped us to get MediCal, California Disabilty Insurance, for her. We are still working on this problem, 10 months later. Next week she goes back to Switzerland to finish her degree, back to AI and basic coverage.

For the dad or the son or both?! Lots of suggestions, depending on your answer. And we have a new blog starting here very soon, called New to Geneva? which will help. Start by looking through our resources section and you’ll get the flavour of things going on here. What’s your son interested in? GenevaLunch is based in St Prex, near Morges, so we can give you a lot of pointers. You’ll be close to the lake, to bike paths, easy trips into Lausanne, which has a lot to offer. Jura is 20-30 minutes away with a lot of good outdoor stuff.

    Bonjour !!

    Greetings from Guayaquil, Ecuador

I am happy to have found genevalunch.com!! So many memories… I spent almost nine years in Geneva. Those were great years, back in the 70s. I was young and most of the time in love!

Would you please help me to find my friend Michele Frutschi? I know she is in Le Valais but I do not know where exactly. I have not seen her for so many years and I would love to hear from her. I know she married Christian EGGS, has three sons.

    Merci!!

  10. Ellen Wallace Says:

You might try placing a classified ad in Le Nouvelliste, which is a very well read newspaper in Valais. The population of the canton is not that big, so someone who knows her is likely to spot this. lenouvelliste.ch

    Dear Ellen
Congratulations on resisting the probable temptation to follow the grossly over-the-top coverage by other news sites and radios of the predictable early death (given his life-style) of Michael Jackson, whose “myth” was the creation of his publicists and the record companies. A great PLUS for Geneva Lunch!

  12. Ellen Wallace Says:

The temptation was very short-lived! However, I was pleased to see Patrick Chappatte’s cartoon on the subject.

  13. Warren Bobrow Says:

I’m so proud to have my musings published in GenevaLunch.. Thank you for making my week! Cheers, Warren Bobrow

  14. Dinah Lee Küng Says:

    Dear Ellen,
What a nice website, which I only discover after living in St-Cergue for the last twelve years. I’ll bookmark it, for sure. It looks like a lot of work, so thanks for the effort.
    Warm wishes,
Dinah Lee Küng, author of A Visit From Voltaire

  15. Ellen Wallace Says:

Dinah, thank you! The word about GL is slowly but steadily getting on – we’re all volunteers and our marketing budget is almost non-existant, so we’re always happy to have new fans. Spread the word, please.

  16. Margaret Wilson Says:

In a recent article in Le Temps, M. Francois Modoux was bemoaning the fact the 60% of Swiss voted against allowing the minarets on mosques. Enough of trying to be politically correct. Does he not realize that the PC industry is destroying our world. The militant Muslims have changed the face of London and are in the US doing the same. There will be no turning back and the bleeding hearts will live with their misquided choices.
