Here’s what I’m doing to celebrate World Environment Day: I’m pulling out a dusty copy of Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, who was born 100 years ago, Off the Shelf in Geneva reminded me. Her book, published in 1962, took on the chemical industry and is widely considered to have kicked off the environmental movement, at least in the United States.
Anyone who likes to read should check out the three for the price of two summer reading offer at the bookstore, which stocks a good collection of English books and orders them for many people.
