I was debating whether or not there is really a story behind the article the Tribune de Geneve has run on what it calls the crisis at the TPG, or Geneva public transport. The nub of it is that the director, Laurent Guiraud, seems to have been "muzzled" by her board of directors and can talk to the press only if it concerns operational matters. I have not checked to see if this is accurate because crisis in this case appears to be management tensions rather than mismanagement or a financial crisis. I will wait out this story, if there is one, rather than chasing it, which I think the Tribune is well placed to do.
What intrigued me most was the link to the non-official TPG site, which sounded like a twin to the blog a Nestle employee had in 2007. Are TPG employees writing nasty notes about an internal crisis, I wondered? Not at all! It’s a great example of a good site set up by people who love trams and buses, most of whom are employees of the TPG, it appears. If you want to know about the latest bus on the lines or see the new ads that will appear on your trams, you can find it here. This is one little corner of the web, nourished by people who are passionate about a subject, and my congratulations to them: this is how the web should work.
My favourite bit, though, is their great photo of Geneva’s Jet d’eau which makes me want to be a tourist in Geneva. Check it out.
