January in Switzerland is a time when skiing and anything else that has to do with snow makes the news.
Either the weather is cold and the snow is great, or as was the case this weekend the weather is warm and relatively balmy, what the Irish like to call soft weather, and the snow is less great but the spirits soar. Neuchatel skier Didier Cuche won a downhill race in Austria and the rest of the world is out with snowshoes or skis or sleds or – the list is long.
And then, being one of those people out doing something, you look up. The best news on Sunday afternoon was that the moon over the Alps was magnificent. Soft weather, soft news, both of them good for the spirits.
