Swiss trains and the national penchant for keeping time are back in the news. The new Edipresse publication Swisster carries a feature by Peter Capella that wonders if Swiss trains can no longer run on time – have they lost their fabled touch? The news peg for this is the delays last Friday that caused consumers major headaches, from no trains to autoroute traffic jams. The delay was caused by a line failure that took several hours to repair.

Ironically, Swiss trains are also in the news for being on time, the perfect example of a Swiss fixation with time, according to Imogen Foulkes, writing for the BBC from German-speaking Switzerland. Trains, clocking in at work, schools, and more: the country has a navel-staring obsession with time, she writes.
