Liam Bates, who occasionally contributes travel articles to
GenevaLunch, is currently leading a group that includes Lake Geneva
area people on an overland trip to Lhasa,
capital of Tibet. It is indeed possible to go to Tibet, he writes
Saturday in a new ChinaGold blog post, but not overland, despite having
negotiated permits for this. Their route has had to be changed at the
last minute from a Yunnan-Tibet drive, an area where he hitchhiked in
July 2007, to Yunnan-Chengdu by road, and from there they will have to
fly to Lhasa.
